Wedding Tip - Wedding Cake Checklist

Friday, April, 8 2011   •   Cakes & Desserts   •   by Dynamite Weddings

There are so many budget items to keep in check when planning your wedding. Here's a tip from DW expert, Tiffany on how she stayed within her wedding cake budget....

"Want a gorgeous cake, and don't want to pay a fortune? Do what I did! My husband and I ordered an amazing cake for our wedding. We chose a 3-tiered cake with fondant frosting and small candied flowers all over it, each flower was the same except the centers were different pastel colors to match my bridesmaids dresses. The savings came in when we chose a cake that only fed 75, but we had a 175 attendees!! So, you want to know how we fed the other 100 guests? Well, we had the bakery make a sheet cake with the same cake! No one even knew! Why? Because the servers took the cake in the back to slice it up!"

Great idea, huh?! Thanks, Tiffany!!

Wedding Trend - Candy Bars

Sunday, March, 6 2011   •   Cakes & Desserts   •   by Dynamite Weddings

Wedding candy bars have not gone anywhere! They are so fun and very decorative! They seem to lighten up a room and keep guests coming back for more. Try to make your candy bar incorporate your color scheme by only offering certain colors of candy. For example, if your color scheme was black and silver you can order just those colors in certain candies to keep everything pretty and decorative AND coordinated!

*You can use tiered cake stands for cupcake towers or trees and they come in different sizes so you can make as many as your guests will need.

*You can decorate your cupcake tree with leaves if you wish or other decorations, like flowers.

*Cupcakes are so popular for weddings because of their size. They are lower in price than traditional wedding cakes and they are easy to make and decorate to a theme.

*You can make heart shaped cupcakes for your wedding. You can make cupcakes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Ask your wedding planner for cupcakes designer tips.

*You can add fondant, silk flowers and fresh fruit on your cupcakes for toppings and decorations. Use Spring natural flowers for your wedding. It is a beautiful touch!

*Use your creative skills and play around with the colors. You can order your cupcakes unique and choose from a large amount of colorful designs as well as silver or gold ones.

*If you are getting married around Christmas you could use a Christmas ornament, or if you're having a Fall wedding you could use pine cones for decoration. You could try using Hershey kisses for a Valentine's Day wedding as well. There are so many choices!

* You could write the bride and grooms names or initials on each cupcake with a heart around them.

*It would be quite original if you could put little photos of the bride and groom on each cake.

Wedding Trend - Match your Alcohol to your Desserts

Sunday, December, 5 2010   •   Cakes & Desserts   •   by Dynamite Weddings

A new trend that we have seen at some recent weddings is matching a certain liquor to a dessert to give your guests a little tasting. You can also do this with appetizers during the cocktail hour to keep your guests busy while you are being photographed before your reception entrance! Most guests absolutely enjoy the tasting and get wrapped up in it. This will let their inner food critique come out and gives them something to talk about once seated.

Ask Sugar and Spice Specialty Desserts for some fabulous dessert bar ideas!

Wedding Trend - whoopie pie dessert and favor

Friday, November, 5 2010   •   Cakes & Desserts   •   by Dynamite Weddings

These cute little whoopie pies are a classic northeastern dessert that are very simple and sweet! Whoopie pies are hitting the wedding market fast too. I have been seeing these yummy cake desserts all over wedding blogs and real weddings. They are for sure replacing the cupcakes and pies of 2010!

The great thing about whoopie pies is how simple they are to make. Therefore they work well at dessert bars and as favors for guests to enjoy on their car ride home!
